Research

Our research includes studies of intermolecular and surface forces, polymers, surface functionalization and characterization of surface structures and properties at the nanometre to micrometre scale. Here we are employing state-of-the-art experimental techniques to study the direct interaction between hydrophobic, structured and polymeric interfaces, wetting properties and surface energy component analysis as well as structural, mechanical and viscoelastic properties of adsorbed or chemically grafted molecular films. An exciting element of our research is the direct link between fundamental studies and applied surface science, which means that our work can lead to the development of coatings and materials for applications regarding adhesion, anti-icing, anti-fouling, molecular sensors, lubrication etc.

We are also part of the Center for Nanomedicine and Theranostics. Here our knowledge from colloidal science is applied to find new and better solutions in areas as drug delivery and bio-imaging and for studies of interactions between and within biomaterial.
