International Faculty Recruited to DTU Chemistry

After reviewing a large number of highly qualified applicants, we are extremely proud to have attracted several new tenure track Assistant Professors at DTU Chemistry. We can now present the first three new faculty members who will strengthen the department in several areas including AI driven molecular synthesis, transport phenomena in membranes and electrocatalysis. Below you can read more about Eli Weinstein, Leo Gordon, and Antonia Herzog. We look forward to integrating them in our strong department.

Dr. Eli N. Weinstein will start on 1 August as an Assistant Professor. Eli joins us from a postdoctoral position at Columbia University. His research is on probabilistic machine learning and its application to the molecular sciences. He specializes in developing machine learning methods to design laboratory experiments, inventing algorithms that exploit unique features of chemical systems to learn about complex biology. We look forward to his contributions to advancing research, innovation and teaching in the department at the intersection of chemistry and machine learning.

Dr. Leo William Gordon will start on 1 August 2025 as an Assistant Professor. Leo joins us from a postdoctoral position at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he researched transport phenomena and ion interactions in polymer electrolytes and membrane materials, in addition to studying local interactions in electrode materials. His research focuses on understanding material properties and phenomena across multiple length scales using NMR methodologies coupled with electrochemical techniques. We look forward to seeing his innovative approach to sustainable energy solutions and material characterization becoming a part of our research, innovation, and teaching activities.

Dr. Antonia Herzog will start as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) on 1 November 2025. She joins us from a postdoctoral position at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), focusing on sustainable electrochemical processes, including nitrogen activation technologies. Antonia earned her PhD in Chemistry from the Fritz Haber Institute of the Max Planck Society, where she studied electrocatalysts for the electrochemical reduction of carbon dioxide into value-added chemicals. At DTU, she will establish a research program focused on the electrochemical activation of small molecules to enable challenging chemical transformations powered by renewable energy.
