Associate Professor dr.scient. Niels Engholm Henriksen, DTU Chemistry, receives DKK 2.8 million grant from the Independent Research Fund Denmark for groundbreaking quantum chemistry project.

The project, Molecular Quantum Technology: Optical Deracemization, is led by Niels Engholm Henriksen at DTU Chemistry, who has received DKK 2,792,301 from the Independent Research Fund Denmark, Technology and Production.

This new research initiative at DTU explores how quantum technology can be used to control chemical reactions with unprecedented precision. Instead of classical methods such as heating or photochemistry, ultrashort laser pulses are used to create and manipulate quantum states in molecules. This research is based on extensive quantum-chemical calculations.

By adjusting the phase components of the laser, researchers can control reactions at the atomic level. The aim is to develop a method that selectively converts racemic mixtures - where only one mirror-image isomer is pharmaceutically relevant.
