A one-year maternity cover position as Platform Engineer is available at DTU Chemistry from January 15, 2020 until January 14, 2021. The position relates to the Danish Research Infrastructure for Chemical Biology, DK-OPENSCREEN.

 

The research infrastructure is constructed as an openaccess platform for interdisciplinary research with the aim of uniting biologists and chemists. The core elements of the infrastructure will guarantee that biologists have access to compounds with the potential to modulate biological systems, while chemists have a platform for testing the biological activity of their molecules. The platform offers access to a collection of high-quality single molecules for use in biological screening assays.

 

The compound library of DK-OPENSCREEN is hosted and curated by DTU Chemistry, where assay-ready plates are prepared and distributed to DK-OPENSCREEN screening nodes as well as external partners. We have state-of-the-art equipment ensuring highly efficient screening compound synthesis, hit triaging, quality control and assurance as well as compound management.

 

Responsibilities and tasks

 
The responsibility of the Platform Engineer includes:
  • Production of assay-ready plates from the compound library using the infrastructures robotics.
  • Maintaining, updating and curating the national compound collection. This includes QC of screening compounds, addition of new molecules from collaborators and the acquisition and maintenance of infrastructure equipment.
  • Developing, validating and carrying out different biochemical assays in collaboration with users and partners.
  • Training and supervision of internal and external users of the DK-OPENSCREEN platform.
  • The day-to-day operation of DK-OPENSCREEN at DTU including contact to national and international collaborators and users.
  • Administrative support to the Director of DK-OPENSCREEN.
  • Limited travel activities are to be expected.
Qualifications


Candidates should:

  • Have an MSc or PhD degree in chemistry, biochemistry or cell biology.
  • Be organized and committed to providing assistance and service to platform users.
  • Have enthusiasm for generating and curating analytical and screening data.
  • Possess independence, be self-motivated and have good communication skills.

The ideal candidate has extensive experience with biochemistry and/or cell biology, ideally with a background in high-throughput screening, an interest in chemical biology and the desire to work in a highly dynamic environment.

 

Candidates should have a thorough interest in assay development, high-throughput screening and the interpretation of biological data. Experience with analytical and preparative HPLC as well as spectroscopy is a clear advantage.

Prior experience with chemoinformatics tools and SiteCore software will be an advantage.

 

In the assessment of the candidates, consideration will be given to:

  • Candidate with a biochemistry, cell biology or similar background and skillset.
  • Relevance of background experience.
  • Commitment to a position, where multitasking and putting the users first is paramount.
  • Ability to be part of a team consisting of technical and academic personnel.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English and good communication skills.
  • Interdisciplinary collaboration skills.

Salary and terms of employment

The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.

 

The positon is a one-year maternity cover from January 15, 2020 until January 14, 2021.
