This year’s Radical Innovation Sprint research has jump-started. 13 projects are now being worked to see if the proposed hypotheses can stand initial testing. Again this year, the Sprint projects will look at everything from top to bottom in the upstream Oil and Gas Industry in the Danish part of the North Sea. Fast pace is key as the projects run from the 1 September to 30 November.
47 radical ideas competed to be on the starting line 1 September. 13 projects passed the double blind evaluation by a committee of 14 people and have now begun to work their ideas. Behind the pool of 47 ideas, there were researchers who had more than one idea. As such, the same goes for the 13 funded ideas. Two researchers from Aarhus University Alberto Scoma and Hans Henning Stutz have proven that they truly hold a radical mindset as they both were granted two projects.
“The oil and gas industry is new to me, but I had some novel ideas and with the support of the radical innovation team I was able to scope them to fit the industry. Now I really excited and looking forward to work on both ideas. I believe that these concepts and hypothesis are worthy to test but without the radical innovation sprint support it would be difficult”, says Hans Henning Stutz, Dept. of Engineering, Aarhus University.
Geographically, the projects are widely spread both within the DHRTC network and outside. Researchers from Aalborg University, Aarhus University, Technical University of Denmark, GEO and Via University College are now proceeding at fast pace in the Sprint. During the project, all ideas are not only assigned a project manager but also a contact in Technology Maturation to supply the projects with industry knowledge.
“Meetings between the researchers and their Technology Maturation contact provide great value creation. We see the projects are progressing fast as we interact with the researchers. We feed the vast industry experience within the Technology Maturation group into the researcher and we learn from them. Collaboration is key to succeed”, says Kristine Wille Hilstrøm, project manager for RIS 2018 and Technology Maturation Advisor.
Meet the researchers
You can meet many researchers from the Radical Innovation Sprint from both 2017 and 2018 at the DHRTC Technology Conference, which will take place on 12 and 13 November in Copenhagen. Come and check out their work and interact with your colleagues, industry professionals and DHRTC staff.
