The perspective that we are getting closer to the energy turning point and that climate change inducts damaging effects is now obvious to almost everybody. How Total prepares for the future will be illustrated at the third DHRTC Technology Conference in November.
In order to be resilient, and to integrate the context of the energy turning point as an opportunity for development, Total has been quite proactive in identifying the consequences on their O&G business and the challenges that the company must tackle for the next 20 years. These are summarized here: meeting the energy needs for a growing population and contributing to limit global warming while staying close to its customers. In other words, being a worldwide “responsible energy leader”.
To give an insights into how Total works in relation to energy transition, Pierre Esquier, Manager, R&D New Ventures at Total, will join the DHRTC Technology Conference.
The Total R&D mission is to be at the forefront of the “prepare the future” strategic shift, since R&D is part of the innovation process and aims at leveraging new technologies to support businesses and operations. Therefore, the talk will provide insights on the recently revisited R&D objectives, roadmap, resources, worldwide organization and topics.
“In particular, we will focus on topics which are relevant to North Sea O&G activities, activities whose importance is fully illustrated through the considerable technical and human effort that Total is investing in Copenhagen, consecutively to the acquisition of Maersk Oil,” says Pierre Esquier.
About the speaker
Pierre Esquier was born in 1959. He graduated from Paris VI University (Master in Geophysics & Geotechnics) in 1985 and from French Ecole Nationale Supérieure du Pétrole et des Moteurs (Master in Petroleum Exploration) in 1986.
Pierre’s career path has allowed him to embrace various aspects within the E&P cycle. He began his career in 1987 with Elf Aquitaine as Research Geophysicist and became one of the Company specialists in Depth Imaging. In 1996 he initiated a new chapter of his career, closer to operations, and went to Angola as senior field-geoscientist where he actively participated to the development and “1st Oil” of the giant Girassol. Just after the Elf-Total merger, in 2001, he was assigned in UK where he first looked after the Affiliate’s Non Operated Assets and, later, after Appraisal Activity in West of Shetland. Back in France in 2004, he was assigned as Geophysical Advisor for the Angolan Deep Offshore Pazflor Project and later as Geophysical Advisor for a group of Nigerian’s onshore and offshore E&P assets.
Coming back from a one-year sabbatical leave, he became in 2012 manager of the Technical Communication Department for Exploration Division, in charge of promoting geoscience and reservoir technical excellence, internally and externally. Early 2018, he became manager in the New-Ventures Department of the R&D Division where until now he coordinates Total R&D partnerships with its peers, that is NOCs and IOCs, from a technical and business standpoint.
Pierre has had responsibilities in various EAGE and AAPG committees, from where he contributed to organize numerous conferences, workshops and other initiatives for the O&G industry.
