DTU Chemistry is seeking a postdoc starting from May 1, 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The project seeks at establishing, developing and applying new, highly reliable, quantum chemical methods and computational protocols to model advanced (time-resolved) x-ray spectroscopies, photoionization and photoelectron effects, and sophisticated magneto-optical effects. The ambition is to bridge experimental measurements, experimental design and theory at a hitherto unprecedented level of detail and accuracy.

The project is supervised by Professor Sonia Coriani at DTU Chemistry, and it involves collaboration with Prof. H. Koch, NTNU Trondheim and SNS Pisa, Prof. P. Decleva, University of Trieste, Associate Prof. M. Odelius, Stockholm University, Assoc. Prof. F. Santoro, CNR Pisa, and Prof. N. Doslic, Ruder Boškovic Institute, Zagreb.

The position is funded by the DFF-FP2 project “Developing Theoretical Beamlines for Cutting-Edge Experiments” from Independent Fund Denmark and by DTU Chemistry.

Responsibilities and tasks
  • Theoretical development of Coupled Cluster, SOPPA and TD-DFT methods to simulate linear and non-linear processes in the highly energetic x-ray domain, e.g. TR-NEXAFS and RIXS, and of magnetically induced/chiral spectroscopies in the optical regime
  • Efficient implementation in computer codes
  • Application of the methods to selected case studies
  • Candidates should have a PhD degree in theoretical chemistry.
  • Strong experience with method development and code implementation, in particular within ab initio electronic structure methods and propagator theory, e.g. coupled cluster (response theory), second-order polarization propagator, etc.
  • Good programming and scripting skills.
  • A good record of scientific papers in renown peer-reviewed international journals.
  • Independence and good communication skills in English.

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union.

The position includes an internationally competitive salary and pension package, vacation allowance, and Danish state-paid health care, and the position is for 2 years.
